Captain John Valentine Wotton, C.B.E. (13 February, 1887 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Ramsgate.
Wotton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1908.[1]
Wotton was appointed to the battleship Orion as torpedo officer from 13 January, 1914 and served in her throughout the war, seeing action at the Battle of Jutland. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1916.[2]
Wotton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1920.[3]
In 1926, while in command of the sweeping sloop Foxglove, he was thanked for presenting an ultimatum to Chinese generals who were interfering in foreign shippoing at Taku.
Wotton was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 9 July, 1929 and was promoted to the rank of Captain on 13 February, 1932.[4]
World War II
Wotton was appointed as a minesweeping officer on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Nore from 6 June 1940.[5]
Reverted to the Retired List on 10 September, 1946.[6]
