Vice-Admiral (retired) Basil Edward Cochrane, (24 August, 1841 – 4 May, 1922) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Cochrane was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 20 December, 1860.[1]

Cochrane was promoted to the rank of Commander on 29 November, 1872.[2]

He was appointed in command of H.M.S. Tyne in May 1882, vice John E. Stokes, promoted.[3] He was superseded and succeeded in command by Commander W. E. Darwall on 5 January 1885.

Cochrane was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1884.[4]

Placed on the Retired List on account of age on 21 August, 1896, Cochrane would be promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 22 June, 1899[5], and then to Vice-Admiral on 10 February, 1904.[6]

He died in 1922 of senile decay and heart failure.[7]
