The Eastern Mediterranean Squadron was renamed the Ægean Squadron upon Rear-Admiral Sydney R. Fremantle taking command in August, 1917.[1] At the same time, the commander went from being a Vice-Admiral to a Rear-Admiral, and the second-in-command was dropped.
