Admiral SIR Reginald Guy Hannam Henderson, G.C.B., R.N. (1 September, 1881 – 2 May, 1939) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Commander John Hannam Henderson, R.N. gained eight months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Henderson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1902.
Henderson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1913.
Henderson was appointed to the battleship Erin as her executive officer on 3 August, 1914 and would fight in her at the Battle of Jutland. He left Erin soon after 8 December, 1916 when he was appointed for duty with the Anti-Submarine Division, where he would work until 31 May, 1917.
Henderson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 18 October, 1917.
Post-War
Henderson was appointed in command of the cruiser Hawkins on 24 July, 1919.[1]
Henderson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 March, 1929.
Henderson was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 10 October, 1933.
Henderson was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 14 January, 1939. In April 1939, "owing to Sir Reginald's illness, the King handed the insignia of the G.C.B., conferred on him, to Lady Henderson, at Buckingham Palace." [2] He died on 2 May 1939, even as it was being considered whether to invalid him on the 31st of May.
