Service
Chatham commissioned at Chatham on 3 December, 1912. She was ordered to join the Second Battle Squadron on 5 July 1913, but may have been attached to it previously.[7]
She was to join the Third Light Cruiser Squadron in 1916, but was delayed after she struck a mine, thus missing the Battle of Jutland. She joined around July 1916.
In early 1919, she was sent to the Nore.
Alterations
Chatham was fitted with a director in September, 1918. This alteration may have required her pole mast to be replaced with a tripod mast for greater rigidity.[8]
