Montague joined the Royal Navy and by the Second World War was a Commander.  He died on active service at the age of 48 while in command of H.M.S. ''Torrent'', leaving a wife and four children.

Admiral Francis Charles Methuen Noel, F.R.G.S., Royal Navy (5 June, 1852 – 30 December, 1925) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Noel was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1890.[1]

Noel was promoted to the rank of Captain on 22 June, 1897.[2]

He was appointed in command of the battleship Hood on 3 January, 1905.[Citation needed]

Noel was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 April, 1907.[3] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, Noel was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 10 October.[4] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 19 May, 1912,[5] and to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 24 October, 1915.[6]

Family Life

Noel and his wife had three children. Mary Penelope (born 10 August, 1887), Francis Methuen (born 28 December, 1888) and Montague Wriothesley (born 12 November, 1892). Mary passed away on 22 March, 1969.
