Commander (retired) Rodney Spencer Hewlett, (3 February, 1881 – 25 January, 1956) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Southsea, Hewlett listed his mother as his guardian upon joining the Navy in July, 1895.[1]

Hewlett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1903.[2]

A November 1907 Court of Enquiry into the grounding of [illegible... Fawn? Fame? Foam?] determined that Hewlett should be relieved of command for having failed to act with sufficient energy and resource. This coincides with the end of his single command appointment, in Thrasher. Hewlett applied to have this notation removed from his record, but this was refused.[3]

Hewlett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1911. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 2 October, 1911.[4]

Hewlett was promoted to the rank of Commander on 11 November, 1918.[5]
