Captain Henry Maclean Fothergill, R.N., Retired (25 November, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Navy. He spent an extraordinary six years in the battleship Marlborough, covering the entirety of the Great War.

Life & Career

The son of retired Lieutenant-Colonel C. W. Fothergill was born in Sotrrington, Sussex.

Fothergill was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1900.

Fothergill was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1911.

Fothergill was appointed to Marlborough in June, 1914 and served in her throughtout the war, being promoted to the rank of Acting Commander on 17 February, 1917 and then to Commander on 30 June, 1917.

Post-War

Fothergill finally left Marlborough around 17 December, 1920 when he was placed on unpaid time on the books of H.M.S. Vivid.

Retired at his own request on 1 January, 1923.

Fothergill was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 25 November, 1926.
