Captain George Haines Faulkner, C.B., D.S.C., R.N. (27 April, 1893 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Reverend Thomas G. Faulkner.

Appointed to the Laforey Class destroyer Laertes on 13 April, 1914, Faulker fought at the Battle of Helgoland Bight where he was wounded in his right thigh by a shell on 28 August, 1914. He was admitted to Chatham Hospital on 1 September and discharged as fit on 16 September. He was mentioned in despatches for his performance.

Faulkner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 21 October, 1914. He continued to serve in the destroyer until 21 January, 1917, apart from a brief appointment in her sister, Legion from 9 May to 21 June, 1916.

Faulkner served in Redgauntlet from 21 January 1917 until being appointed to Nimrod for gunnery duties on 2 February 1918.

Post-War

Faulkner was appointed in command of the destroyer Thruster on 17 December, 1918.[1]

Faulkner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 21 October, 1922.

In 1924, Faulkner delivered intelligence reports on San Francisco and Hawaii

Faulkner was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1928.

Faulkner was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1935.

On 25 February 1937, a Court of Enquiry was convened to explore the circumstances of a collision between Bideford and a floating dock owen by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company at Abadan. Faulkner was blamed in the affair and told to be more careful in future.

He was superseded in command of the sloop Bideford shortly after 14 November, 1938 by Douglas Young-Jamieson.[2]

World War II

Retired 2 January, 1945.

Reverted to Retired List on 29 October, 1947.
