Lieutenant-Commander Harrington Douty Edwards, D.S.O., R.N. (22 December, 1885 – 7 March, 1916) served in the Royal Navy as a submarine commander.

Life & Career

Born in Antigua, Edwards gained three and a half months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Edwards was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 October, 1906.[1]

His early sea-going career started with service aboard pre-dreadnoughts. On 12 August, 1912, he was appointed to the pre-dreadnought Duncan.[2] On 13 June, 1913, he was appointed to the battleship Queen.[3]

He was appointed to the depot ship Vulcan for command of submarines on 2 September, 1914,[4] being immediately given charge of C 23.[5] Promotion to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander followed on 30 October, 1914.[6]

Edwards perished along with his entire crew when his submarine, E 5 was lost on 7 March, 1916.[7]
