Lieutenant-Commander Humphrey Randle Upton Cottrell-Dormer, R.N. (29 April, 1881 – 27 May, 1915) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Roushaw Wood[illeg] Oxford[?].

Cottrell-Dormer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1903.[1]

Cottrell-Dormer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1911.[2]

Cottrell-Dormer was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Latona as first officer on 22 October, 1914. The ship was paid off on 8 March 1915 and Cottrell-Dormer was appointed to the minelayer Princess Irene on the following day. He died when she exploded while being loaded with mines in the Medway Estuary on 27 May, 1915.[3]
