Captain (retired) John Gilbert de Odingsells Coke, C.B.E. (19 October, 1874 – 30 April, 1937) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
On 24 October, 1895 there was a court martial of a Sub-Lieutenant George Potter in Hood regarding irregularities in wine accounts and it was deemed that Coke had given evidence of an "unsatisfactory character."[1]
Coke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 7 April, 1896.[2]
On 3 May, 1901, Coke was invalided from command of the destroyer Conflict on the Mediterranean Station with fever due to the climate.[3]
Coke was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1905.[4]
Coke was appointed in command of the destroyer Albacore on 17 June, 1909.[5]
Coke retired at his own request with the rank of Captain on 9 February, 1912.[6]
Great War
