H.M.S. Argonaut was one of eight Diadem class protected cruisers completed for the Royal Navy at the end of the nineteenth century.
Service
Argonaut commissioned at Chatham on 19 April, 1900, under Captain George H. Cherry, for service on the China Station in place of the Undaunted.[9]
Among those officers appointed to Argonaut at the start of her commission were Lieutenant Thomas Brandreth, Lieutenant E. L. C. Muntz as First Lieutenant, Lieutenant F. C. Brown as Gunnery Officer, Lieutenant W. J. B. Law as Torpedo Officer, Lieutenants F. Payne-Galloway, R. S. J. Wigram, and Hugh B. Mulleneux.[10]
She recommissioned at Portsmouth on 29 February, 1912. In mid-1913, she remained in Portsmouth, engaged in training stokers.[11]
