Captain (retired) Harman Arthur Lewis Bond, R.N.R. (1 November, 1881 – 31 October, 1934) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Bond was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 29 January, 1913.

Bond was appointed in command of the "C" Class destroyer Cheerful on 12 September, 1916. She operated as part of the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla until she was mined and lost under his command on 30 June, 1917. Bond survived, though forty-four lives were lost.

Bond was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 17 on 15 August, 1917 He commanded her until shortly after the end of the war. His Service Record records simply "Good Service" for 1917.[1][2]

On 22 August, 1918, the Captain of H.M.S. Latona offered a satisfactory inspection of Bond's T.B. 17.[3]

Bond was granted the rank of Acting Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 31 December, 1918. He was demobilised on 28 April, 1919 after arriving back in England.[4]

Bond was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 29 January, 1921.[5]

Bond was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 30 June, 1925.[6]

Bond was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Captain R.N.R. on 1 November, 1931.[7]
