Captain R.N.R. (retired) Arthur Tillotson Brown, R.D., R.N.R. (10 April, 1878 – June 1942) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Brown was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 12 August, 1910.[1]

Brown served in Talbot from 19 January 1915 to 1 January, 1917. He was noted as being cool under fire, and "commanded his guns in action in an efficient and praiseworthy manner", likely when she was off Gallipoli.[2]

He was cautioned by the C-in-C, Nore on 6 October 1917 in connection with the grounding of Seal.[3]

He commanded the paddle steamer Prince Edward from 23 January 1918 until he was demobilised on 17 May 1919, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 12 August, 1918.[4]

Brown was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 30 June, 1922.[5]

Brown was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain R.N.R. on 10 April, 1928.[6]

World War II

Brown died at sea while in command of the newly-delivered Mauretania.
