H.M.S. Regulus (1930)
Builder: Vickers, Barrow
Launched: 11 Jun, 1930
Commissioned: 1 November, 1930[1]
Mined: 6 Dec, 1940
Fate: near Apulia

H.M.S. Regulus was one of four Rainbow Class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Commissioned at Barrow on 1 November, 1930[2] for service with the First Submarine Flotilla in the Mediterranean extending to at least early 1933.[3] On 16 January, 1931, she left Portsmouth for Chatham.[4]

On 17 June 1931, she left Sheerness for Rosyth,[5] where she arrived on 18 June.[6]

In 1934, her bell, inscribed with her name and perhaps her motto, was offered for sale to naval officers and others who might be interested, at a price between £1 and £5. Interested parties were to write the Director of Stores and were urged to include any special information which might convey the importance they attach to the bell, in light of the Admiralty's understanding that such items carry great sentimental value. Just why her bell would be offered for sale at this point in her career seems hard to explain.[7]

By mid-1934, she was part of the First Submarine Flotilla on the Mediterranean Station.[8]

By October 1935, she was with the Fourth Submarine Flotilla on the China Station.[9]
