Commander (retired) William Edward Prowse, (21 July, 1876 – 31 January, 1950) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Kingston, Surrey, the son of Captain James Ferris Prowse, R.N..[1]

Prowse was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1899.[2]

Prowse was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1907.[3]

He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 16 April, 1910.[4]

Prowse served in physical training for boys in Powerful, Portsmouth and H.M.S. Ganges during the Great War.[5]

Prowse was granted the acting rank of Commander (retired) on 1 April, 1915.

Prowse was promoted to the rank of Commander on 21 July, 1916.[6]

He reverted to the Retired List on 11 February, 1919.

In 1924, he was appointed to command the training ship Arethusa.
