Rear-Admiral (retired) SIR William James Lloyd Wharton, K.C.B., F.R.S., F.G.S. (2 March, 1843 – 29 September, 1905) served in the Royal Navy, including twenty years as Hydrographer of the Navy.
Life & Career
Wharton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1865.
Wharton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 2 March, 1872.
Wharton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 29 January, 1880.
Appointed to command of the surveying sloop Sylvia from 16 March, 1882 to 13 April, 1884.
Wharton was placed on the Retired List on 2 August, 1891 and was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 January, 1895.
