H.M.S. Viceroy was one of twenty-five "V" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.
Service
Viceroy commissioned on 8 January, 1918.[7]
She was re-commissioned at Devonport on 15 September, 1924.[8]
Paid off into Dockyard Control on 19 May, 1927,[9] the ship soon commissioned at Devonport on 31 August, 1927 for service with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[10]
Commissioned at Devonport on 19 November, 1929 for service with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[11]
She was re-commissioned at Devonport on 7 June, 1932 for service with the Second Destroyer Flotilla with the Home Fleet,[12] remaining with them until at least mid-1937.[13]
In 1934, her bell was offered for sale to naval officers and others who might be interested, at the price of £5 or perhaps £1. Interested parties were to write the Director of Stores and were urged to include any special information which might convey the importance they attach to the bell, in light of the Admiralty's understanding that such items carry great sentimental value.[14]
Re-commissioned in Reserve Fleet at Portsmouth on 4 November, 1936.[15]
