Admiral SIR Laurence Eliot Power, K.C.B., C.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (7 May, 1864 – 20 January, 1927) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Laurence Eliot Power was born at Bramley, Surrey, on 7 May, 1864, the youngest son of the Reverend Bolton Power, and grandson of Major-General Manley Power, K.C.B. At the examination for Naval Cadetships, Power placed seventh out of the successful batch of forty-six candidates.[1]

Power was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 21 June, 1887.[2]

Power was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1899.[3]

Captain

Power was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1905.[4]

On 12 February, 1907, Power was appointed to Dryad for command of Portsmouth Navigation School.[5] He was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 3 August.[6]

Great War

He was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George VI dated 9 August, 1915, vice Phillimore.[7]

Power was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1916.[8] He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 6 December vice Wemyss.[9]

He was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) on 18 June, 1917.[10]

Post-War

On 25 November, 1920, he was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral, vice de Chair.[11] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 7 March, 1914, he was placed on the Retired List on 26 November.[12]

He was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Military Division of the Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 1 January, 1921.[13]

He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 24 November, 1925.[14]
