Rear-Admiral Burges Watson, C.V.O., R.N. (24 September, 1846 – 21 September, 1902) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Watson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 5 September, 1866.
Watson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 3 July, 1879.
Watson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1885.[1]
On 1 February, 1889, he was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Leander.[2]
He commanded the battleship Repulse for two years starting from October 1893.[3] He was the first commander of her new sister, Royal Oak, from January to November of 1896.
On the occasion of the Queen's visit to Cherbourg he was appointed a Companion in the Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) on 9 May, 1899.[4] He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral with seniority of 25 August.[5]
Watson died in Malta of pneumonia.
