U.S.S. Pensacola was a screw sloop completed for the U.S. Navy in 1861.
Construction
Her hull was designed by John Lenthall, and she was launched at the Pensacola Navy Yard on 15 August, 1859. She was commissioned briefly on 5 December, 1859 for transit to Washington Navy Yard, where her machinery had been built, and was decommissioned on 31 January, 1860 for completion.[10]
Service
Commissioned for service on 16 September, 1861.[11]
Pensacola was out of commission from 18 April, 1892 through 22 November, 1898 when she was recommissioned as a training ship in 1898. She was out of commission again from 3 May, 1899 through 14 July, 1901, then became a receiving ship at San Francisco in 1901.[12]
