U.S.S. Caldwell was one of six Caldwell class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy.

Service

Caldwell was commissioned on 1 December, 1917 by Lieutenant Commander Byron McCandless.

She joined the Atlantic Fleet and proceeded to Queenstown, Ireland, arriving there on 5 March, 1918, where she participated in experiments with acoustic submarine detection devices.
