Vickers was a diverse British manufacturer of ships, armour plate, naval guns, fire control instruments — just about anything relevant to creating the Grand Fleet.
Over the 19th century and through the First World War, the company was known as Vickers, Sons & Company (from 1867), Vickers, Sons & Maxim (from 1897), becoming Vickers, Ltd. in 1911[1].
