The central battery ironclad H.M.S. Alexandra was completed in 1877 for the Royal Navy. She was laid down as H.M.S. Superb, conceived as a beamier Sultan with increased armour and weaponry. She was renamed before launch, in 1874.[6]

Construction and Service

Re-commissioned at Devonport on 8 March 1891 to replace Northumberland.[7]
