Captain Robert E. Impey (1845 – 20 February, 1912) served in the United States Navy.
Life & Career
Like Harry Truman, Impey seems to have had no middle name. The Annual Register of the U.S. Naval Academy for the 1865-1866 academic year lists him as Robert Impey, despite other Academy students having their middle initials listed, and the Register of Officers for 1903, which lists the full names of Navy officers, gives his name as Robert E. Impey.[1][2]
Impey was promoted to the rank of Ensign on 1 December, 1866.
Impey was promoted to the rank of Master on 12 March, 1868.
Impey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 26 March, 1869.
Impey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander on 1 October, 1882.
Impey was promoted to the rank of Commander on 25 January, 1893.
Impey was promoted to the rank of Captain on 2 November, 1899.
Impey applied for retirement after 40 years' service and retired from the Navy on 21 September, 1901.[3] He died on 20 February, 1912 in Paris, France.[4]
