Admiral Clement Greatorex, C.B., M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (7 January, 1869 – 21 March, 1937) was an officer of the Royal Navy. His surname was pronounced "Greatrakes".[1]
Early Life & Career
Greatorex was appointed to the special service vessel Sphinx on 25 February, 1890.[2]
Greatorex was loaned to command the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 87 on 21 July, 1892, for manoeuvres.[3]
Greatorex was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1901.[4]
Greatorex was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1905.[5]
In January 1906, he assumed command of the destroyer Eclipse.[6] He was relieved by William F. Slayter on 24 March, 1908.[7]
He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Natal on 27 June, 1911.[8]
Great War
Greatorex was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1916.[9]
Greatorex was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 27 April, 1917.[10] On 8 October, 1917, he was appointed Senior Naval Officer in the Shetlands. He took up the appointment on 18 October.[11]
Post-War
Greatorex was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 2 May, 1922, vice Bruce, and was placed on the Retired List on 3 May, 1922.[12] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 8 November, 1926.[13]
