The Nore Station was one of the three Home Ports of the Royal Navy. Named for the Nore sandbank at the mouth of the River Thames, it encompassed Chatham Royal Dockyard and Sheerness Royal Dockyard and ships not attached to other fleets. Command-in-Chief of the command was usually vested in an Admiral or a Vice-Admiral.
