Originally named ''Rajput'' and in service with the [[Royal Indian Marine]], she was turned over to the Royal Navy in 1892, retaining her name until 1901.

In 1895, she and five of her sisters comprised the first-class torpedo boat detachment at Bombay.{{ARTS1895|p. 62}}
