Michael Southcote Townsend

Rear-Admiral Michael Southcote Townsend, D.S.O., D.S.C.*, O.B.E., C.B., R.N. (18 June, 1908 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

As with many men born c. 1899 or later, his Service Records at The National Archives do not reflect activity between 1931 and 1939 or so.

Life & Career

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 December, 1931.[1]

World War II

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 December, 1939.[2]

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1941.[3]

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1947.[4]

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 7 July, 1956.[5]

Retired 7 July, 1961.[6]
