Members of the crew of the destroyer Sturgeon, 1896. Taken from The Navy & Army Illustrated.

Original Caption: "THE "Sturgeon," of which vessel the group of men shown in our illustration form the company, is one of the torpedo boat destroyers specially commissioned last January, and attached to the Channel Squadron. Her commander is Lieutenant-Commander P. S. ST. JOHN. The men of the "Sturgeon" are shown off duty, in various service rigs, as worn for all weathers, and represent all ratings—warrant and petty officers, seamen and stokers. One of the search-light projectors, which forms so important a part of a "destroyer's" equipment, is partially seen immediately in the foreground. The "Sturgeon" carries six light quick-firing guns, and has a minimum speed of 27 knots."
