Surface Raider Pinguin ("Schiff Nr 33"), 1939Ralf Heckel from Germany informs me that "Schiff 33" was a German surface raider known as "Pinguin". He is building a model of her in 1:100 scale. There is a page for her at German-Navy.de Notice her concealed guns and torpedo tubes belowdecks, as well as her pair of floatplanes hidden in a forward hold. Her forward turret probably could be concealed by a fake, collapsable deckhouse. The huge number of torpedoes she carries belowdecks suggests that she is also intended to replenish U-boats far at sea, though she did have a pair of torpedo tubes for her own use. She was sunk in May 8th of 1941 after nearly a year of very successful operation.
