Kelvite (?) Sounding Machine

This device somehow reeled in a sinker attached to a line, and could find the depth of the water at the point the sinker touched bottom.

This fitting was modelled using primarily the plan of HMS Acheron, with some details grabbed from the (same?) fitting as modelled for Fine Art Models' Titanic model. A collection of photos at HMS Hood Association shows what may still be the same machine... still in service in 1940!

My detail for this is clearly not identical to the images from FAM or HMS Hood Association. I am trying to find more data to tell me if the HMS Acheron indeed carried the same sounding machine as these vessels before I try to alter my model to match them. The primary differences are in the base of the mounting, the lack of some equipment details and the lack of a dial on the top from which readings were taken.

I regard this model as provisional in its detail.

This item might be largely painted steel.
