British 12pdr QF Mark I Gun (18cwt) on P. IV.* Mount

This model of the gun was used on HMS Dreadnought. It was really too light a weapon for the task it was intended -- that of keeping torpedo boats and destroyers from getting too near.  Later dreadnoughts and battlecruisers switched to a 4" or larger caliber for this task.

This was, at least, a high velocity version of a 12 pounder.  Destroyers, such as HMS Acheron had different 12 pounders that were lower velocity and therefore did not impose great stress on the lighter decks of the small ships.

This fitting could be improved if a better drawing of sight adjustment controls were available. I know that there are other 12pdr QF designs in British service, with a 12 cwt mount and (apparently) a shorter barrel.

This model is incomplete and is not yet available for download. It requires more work on the breech, the cushions for the trainer and pointer to rest their shoulders, and the sight-setting equipment is not modelled.

The metal of the barrel would probably be polished and not painted (at least in part). The part in the slide would probably also be bare greased metal.
