Actually, I've redrawn the drawings I received from the National Archives. And yes, I've started working on parts. Todays project is to turn gun barrels.

In reply to March 10 question.
I am working on a 3-D CAD model, eventually to be a physical model
(probably after I retire in 2014!).

Actually, I should live so long, I'd like to do 2 versions:
as commisioned 1907, all white and buff and gorgeous; and,
early 1917, with an aft facing seaplane catapult (and painted gray).

Since the CATIA-5 is at work, progress depends on how busy they keep me (oh, hi, Boss!...)

Unfortunately, I can only send John 2-D sections, so he has to figure out the 3-D hull-form all over again in AutoCAD.

Thanks to Wes, I'm finally done with the hull, which means I can start cutting stations this weekend. I'm probably going to make templates for the first few strakes, but then it will be all 'rack of eye' for the planking. I really don't care if the planks look good because I'm going to coat the whole thing with epoxy and fill in the cracks to get a nice, smooth surface.

Tony, how do you want me to get you the drawings?

My current interest is the anchor crane.

When I was cleaning the "noise" from the profile view I found it wasnt all noise after I thought I saw patterns in all the dots. The second starboard anchor, its chain, what I believe to be a storage for life preservers, line securing eyes, and I dont know what all were faintly traced on the drawings, but nearly invisible because of the "static/noise/overhelming mass of dots".

Dont know if thats possible in your case.

Maybe the same guy that took off with my bow boosted your crane :)

I also finally decided to bite the bullet and actually fair out my stations on my 3d drawing. I am going to use these as templates for the bulkheads on my model.

Did you razor cut?

I printed a couple of templates for the shape of the top and bottom and glued them to 1/16" aircraft plywood. I then cut them out with a band saw, keeping away from the lines. I then sanded to the lines. I glued the top and bottom together with spacer between, and sanded around the edges to get a perfect match. I wrapped some thin juniper around the outside. When the glue for that was drie, I cut it down to fit the turret, and then sanded the front slope into the two pieces of plywood. I finally cut another piece of plywood to the correct width for the angled bit, marked it, cut it, glued it on, and sanded to get the edges to the correct angle.
